JRI Hospitality Buys 43 Freddy's Locations
Restaurant group JRI Hospitality has acquired 43 Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers restaurants from HCI Hospitality. The deal makes JRI the largest Freddy's franchisee in the country, with its portfolio growing to over 130 locations across 18 states.
This acquisition solidifies Salina-based JRI Hospitality's position as a major player in the fast-casual dining scene. Founded in 2011 by Jason Ingermanson, the company's portfolio extends beyond Freddy's to include brands like Mokas Coffee & Eatery, The Original Grande, and Chompie's Restaurants. Ingermanson, a Salina native, also owns the historic Salina Country Club. The deal also includes the acquisition of HCI Hospitality's other restaurant concepts: JC's BBQ and Grill in Junction City, KS, and the Powercat Sports Grill in Manhattan, KS. This move further diversifies JRI's holdings within the Kansas restaurant landscape. HCI Hospitality, based in Manhattan, Kansas, was founded by entrepreneur Dave Dreiling. Dreiling, who also founded GTM Sportswear, will retain ownership of Booth Creek Wagyu, a premium beef brand. HCI's CEO, Cam Blakely, will transition to JRI as the President of Operations for the Freddy's division, ensuring a level of continuity. The sale marks a significant moment for the Freddy's brand itself, which has seen rapid growth. Founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002, the chain has expanded to hundreds of locations across the nation. The brand's growth has been fueled by a strong franchise model, attracting experienced multi-unit operators.
