Historic Zurich Restaurant Expands Event Services
The restaurant Zum Königstuhl in Zurich has announced it is enhancing its event hosting services. The historic establishment aims to attract more corporate events and private celebrations by promoting its traditional Swiss cuisine and unique ambiance.
- The building, located at Stüssihofstatt 3 in Zurich's old town, dates back to 1613. It was named "Zum Königstuhl" in 1637 following several visits from kings. - It serves as the guild house for the "Zunft zur Schneidern," the guild of tailors, cloth shearers, and furriers, which was founded in 1336 and acquired the property in 1938. - The restaurant's largest event space, the main guild hall, can accommodate between 50 and 200 guests depending on the seating arrangement. - For smaller events, the "Carolistube," named after the patron saint of the tailors' guild, Charlemagne, can host 20 to 40 guests. - The establishment's culinary focus is on traditional, home-style cuisine from Switzerland, Austria, and southern Germany, with a notable specialty being their fondue. - Before being re-established as Zum Königstuhl in 2024, the space was occupied by a Thai restaurant called "Blue Monkey." - Historically, a famous resident of the predecessor building was the mayor Rudolf Stüssi, who was killed in the battle of St. Jakob an der Sihl in 1443.
