East Village Adds Two New Restaurants
New York's East Village neighborhood has expanded its culinary offerings with two new openings. The Onion Tree Pizza Co. is now open on 1st Avenue, while YGF Malatang, a Chinese hotpot restaurant, has opened its doors on 3rd Avenue.
- The Onion Tree Pizza Co. is a venture from Indian Chef Jay Jadeja and his wife, Raquel, blending Indian and Italian cuisines. The menu features items such as Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer pizzas. - The restaurant at 145 1st Avenue was previously a Chinese-American restaurant named Baji Baji. Baji Baji itself was a revamped version of the longtime neighborhood spot, China Star. - YGF Malatang, located at 92 3rd Avenue, is the first New York City outpost for the chain, which has over 6,000 locations in China, Japan, and Korea. - The restaurant specializes in malatang, a customizable hot pot style popular in China where customers select their own ingredients from a display, and the price is determined by the weight of the selections. - The malatang concept offers a choice of broths, including a signature beef bone broth and a tomato-based option, and various spice levels.
