Paris is running its marathon today, with the 49th edition underway from the Champs-Élysées and finishing on Avenue Foch. (schneiderelectricparismarathon.com, schneiderelectricparismarathon.com) Organizers say the race began from 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, with staggered starts by runner group. The official race site and RATP both say the event is drawing nearly 60,000 runners. (schneiderelectricparismarathon.com, ratp.fr) The course follows 42.195 kilometers through central Paris, passing landmarks including the Opéra Garnier, Notre-Dame, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe before the finish in the west of the city. (schneiderelectricparismarathon.com, sortiraparis.com) For spectators and residents, the race is also a transport story. Paris city authorities said road closures, parking bans and some tram interruptions were scheduled from April 4 through April 12, with the biggest restrictions in place on race day. (paris.fr) The City of Paris said the Champs-Élysées was closed to vehicle traffic from 12:01 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on April 12, while parts of Avenue Foch were shut from 4:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Other sections of the route in central Paris and the 12th arrondissement were closed from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (paris.fr) RATP has again published its special “Ligne 42km” map, a guide to metro and Réseau Express Régional stations along the route so supporters can move between viewing points. Sortir à Paris reported that at least one metro station was closed Sunday because of the race. (ratp.fr, sortiraparis.com) The marathon is one of the biggest road races in France, and Sortir à Paris said more than 55,000 runners finished the 2025 edition. The event’s scale helps explain why city officials issue neighborhood-by-neighborhood traffic orders days in advance. (sortiraparis.com, paris.fr) France Télévisions is carrying the race on france.tv, where clips from Sunday’s elite start and finish were posted. The broadcaster’s coverage page said Paris deputy mayor Emmanuel Grégoire gave the starting signal for the elite field. (france.tv) The race also doubled as a test of the event’s lower-waste setup. France Télévisions said runners were using water fountains for refreshment instead of disposable cups or bottles. (france.tv) By Sunday afternoon, France Télévisions reported that Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa won the men’s race in 2:05:16 and Ethiopia’s Shure Demise won the women’s race in 2:18:34, a course record. For everyone else still on the route, Paris remains a 42.195-kilometer moving road closure until the last finishers clear Avenue Foch. (france.tv, paris.fr)
