Bali Tops Honeymoon Destinations

Indonesia's Bali has been named the world's best honeymoon destination, surpassing Mauritius for the top spot. The island's reputation for luxury resorts and natural beauty continues to grow, making it the go-to choice for romantic getaways.

The shift in rankings saw Mauritius, last year's winner, move to the second spot. The Indian Ocean nation is known for its blend of Indian, African, French, and Chinese cultures, luxury resorts, and unique natural phenomena like the "underwater waterfall" illusion. Tripadvisor's 2026 Travelers' Choice Awards are based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews submitted between October 2024 and September 2025. Following Bali and Mauritius, the Maldives, St. Lucia, and Sri Lanka's Galle rounded out the top five destinations for honeymoons. Bali's appeal lies in its diverse offerings, from private pool villas and spa treatments to adventurous activities like surfing and hiking up Mount Batur for sunrise views. Its landscapes are a major draw, featuring not just beaches but also lush, terraced rice paddies recognized by UNESCO. Tourism is the dominant force in Bali's economy, accounting for an estimated 60-70% of its income and supporting a large portion of the workforce. The island's popularity is rebounding strongly, welcoming 6.3 million foreign visitors in 2024 after a significant drop during the pandemic.
