Grand Canyon Trail Closures
Due to fire damage, Grand Canyon's Rim-to-Rim trail and other routes are closed, possibly for years — stick to open routes for safety [https://backpacker.com/news-and-events/news/it-could-take-years-for-the-grand-canyons-rim-to-rim-hike-to-reopen/?scope=anon, https://theinertia.com/mountain/grand-canyon-fire-damage-trails-dangerous].
The River Trail is closed between the River Resthouse on the Bright Angel Trail and the South Kaibab Trail junction until July 1, due to an August rockfall that caused a 50-foot section to collapse. This impacts access to the Silver Bridge and makes the popular Rim-to-River-to-Rim loop impossible. The North Kaibab Trail north of the Ribbon Falls junction remains closed indefinitely due to damage from the Dragon Bravo Fire. The fire, sparked by lightning on July 4, 2025, scorched 145,000 acres on the North Rim. Grand Canyon Trail Supervisor Adam Gibson warns that even after reopening, the North Rim trails will pose higher risks for several years due to potential debris flows triggered by rain. These flows have already caused significant damage to the North Kaibab Trail. Construction on the Transcanyon Waterline also contributes to closures. The Plateau Point Trail from the Tonto Trail junction is closed until June 30.
