GEA Mechanical Equipment Sued Over Wages

A lawsuit has been filed against GEA Mechanical Equipment US, Inc., for allegedly failing to pay employees accurate wages. The suit claims the company didn't properly record employee time, resulting in missed overtime pay and violations of California Labor Codes.

The class action lawsuit against GEA Mechanical Equipment US, Inc. is officially known as Case No. CV-25-012103 and is currently before the Stanislaus County Superior Court in California. Beyond unpaid overtime, the complaint alleges a wider range of labor code violations. These include the failure to pay minimum wage, provide legally required meal and rest periods, and issue accurate, itemized wage statements. The suit also claims GEA failed to reimburse employees for necessary expenses and did not pay required sick wages. The legal action was initiated by Blumenthal Nordrehaug Bhowmik De Blouw LLP, a law firm specializing in employment law. The firm has a history of filing class-action lawsuits against companies for alleged violations of the California Labor Code and the Fair Labor Standards Act. The lawsuit alleges that the company's practice of "rounding" employee time resulted in lower pay than what they would have received based on their actual recorded work time. Violations of California's labor laws can lead to significant financial penalties for employers. For instance, failure to provide proper meal or rest breaks can result in a penalty of one hour of pay for each day the break was denied. Waiting time penalties can entitle an employee to a full day's pay for up to 30 days if earned wages are not paid promptly upon termination. GEA Mechanical Equipment US, Inc. is a subsidiary of the global GEA Group, a major supplier for the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries with over 18,000 employees worldwide. The parent company generates revenues of over five billion euros.
