The game combines turn-based strategy with the R-Type universe's shoot 'em up gameplay. Players navigate warship fleets across strategic maps, battling the alien Bydo. R-Type Tactics I･II Cosmos includes both R-Type Tactics games, previously on PSP. The new release features enhanced visuals and updated gameplay mechanics. Originally slated for a 2023 release, the game faced delays. Publisher NIS America announced the final release date in January 2026.
