Kathy Brown Returns with New Single
House music legend Kathy Brown returns with "I'm Gonna Make It" in collaboration with Revival House Project and Mousse T. The release is being praised as a stellar comeback, reflecting Brown's enduring appeal in the soulful house and club scene.
This new single arrives after a challenging period for the acclaimed vocalist. In late 2023, Brown was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which had spread to her brain, requiring an emergency operation followed by radiotherapy and immunotherapy. To support her during this time, her daughter launched a GoFundMe campaign, and the UK label Toolroom released a charity single, "Turn Me Deeper," with all proceeds going towards her treatment. Hailing from South Carolina, Kathy Brown's career began in gospel choirs before she moved into the R&B and house music scenes. She scored her first significant hit in 1993 with "Can't Play Around," which climbed to number thirteen on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Brown is the iconic voice behind several enduring club anthems. She was the lead singer of the musical project Praxis, whose track "Turn Me Out" was a major success in 1994 and hit number one on the US dance chart in its 1997 iteration, "Turn Me Out (Turn To Sugar)". Another of her major successes came in 2004 as the vocalist on Soul Central's "Strings of Life (Stronger on My Own)," which reached number six on the UK Singles Chart. Her collaborator, Mousse T., is a German-Turkish DJ and producer who has been a prominent figure in house music since the 1990s. He is widely known for his 1998 hit "Horny '98" and for his collaboration with Tom Jones on the international hit "Sex Bomb". The other collaborator on the track, Revival House Project, is an artist collective dedicated to re-interpreting classic songs into modern, uplifting dance records with influences of disco and soul. The group, which includes Mousse T., focuses on live instrumentation and artistry. Kathy Brown has previously worked with them on tracks like "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher" and "Dance To The Music".
