Canon posted firmware updates on May 13 for seven EOS R-series mirrorless cameras, according to product advisories on its U.S. support site. The updates cover the EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R3, EOS R10, EOS R6 Mark II, EOS R8 and EOS R100. The most extensive changes apply to the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, both of which moved to firmware version 1.3.0. Canon said the downloads are available through its support pages. ### Which cameras got the biggest changes? Firmware version 1.3.0 for the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II adds “American Football” in Action Priority, which Canon said is designed to optimize human-subject detection for people wearing helmets and shoulder pads. Canon also said the update improves tracking and detection for “Register people priority” in difficult conditions, including profile views, blurred or partially obscured faces, small subjects in frame and children. (usa.canon.com) The EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II updates also add a series of workflow and video functions. Canon listed selectable 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi bands, FTP transfer thread controls, storage for up to four color-temperature values, false-color support with HDR/C.Log View Assist, customizable pre-continuous shooting, AF-setting transfer between same-model bodies, electronic level and grid display during movie recording, and expanded HDMI display behavior. Canon said the EOS R5 Mark II update also adds support for DPRAW shooting and for the EDSDK and CCAPI development kits, while the EOS R1 update adds a Night Display Mode menu option. Canon said that update adds manual selection of 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi bands, lets a sender camera switch group settings on a receiver camera in the EOS Multi-Remote app, and fixes an Err49 issue during communication with an SFTP server. The EOS R10 moved to version 1.8.0, adding support for the EDSDK and fixing Err70 issues tied to Bluetooth interference and repeated use of high-speed continuous shooting+, Canon said. (usa.canon.com) Canon also said the R10 update fixes a problem in which the camera may not be recognized when connected to a smartphone by USB. Firmware version 1.7.0 for the EOS R6 Mark II adds Wi‑Fi band selection and support for CCAPI, Canon said. (usa.canon.com) The company said that update also fixes failed FTP transfers with Err41, repeated Err49 messages during SFTP communication, USB smartphone-recognition problems and a momentary horizontal line in the viewfinder. The EOS R8 moved to version 1.6.0, with a fix for smartphone USB recognition and what Canon described as improved operational stability. (usa.canon.com) The EOS R100 moved to version 1.3.0, adding EDSDK support and broader stability improvements, Canon said. ### Are there any cautions before installing? Canon said updating the EOS R1 or EOS R5 Mark II will delete registered data stored in the camera. (usa.canon.com) The company said users who need that data should save it in advance with the “Save/load registered data on card” function and reload it after the firmware update. Canon’s support notices for all seven cameras say users do not need to install the update if their camera is already running the listed firmware version. (usa.canon.com) The company also recommends downloading the latest software and user guides alongside the firmware packages. ### Where can owners get the files now? Canon’s U.S. support advisory page lists the seven firmware notices under May 13, 2026, and each product support page links to the relevant download. (usa.canon.com) The EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II advisories are labeled firmware version 1.3.0, the EOS R3 is 2.1.0, the EOS R10 is 1.8.0, the EOS R6 Mark II is 1.7.0, the EOS R8 is 1.6.0 and the EOS R100 is 1.3.0.
