Vancouver Opens Massive Food Cart Plaza

Vancouver, WA just opened what's being called the 'largest food cart plaza in America' on its east side. The plaza features dozens of food vendors and is expected to become a major draw for foodies, adding to the region's growing mobile culinary scene.

The new Vancouver Station is located at 1817 SE 164th Ave. and features space for 43 food carts, positioning it as a significant new player in the region's culinary landscape. The development is anchored by an 8,000-square-foot building that includes an indoor dining area, a coffee shop, an ice cream parlor, and a taphouse with 36 taps. This large-scale project is the vision of developer Tai Dang, whose company, Dang Construction, has a history of residential and custom home building since 2006. The Vancouver Station is a sister site to the successful Hillsboro Downtown Station in Oregon, which hosts 27 food carts and has garnered positive reviews. With space for over 40 vendors, Vancouver Station will surpass the size of other notable food cart pods in the area, such as Beaverton's BG Food Cartel with 31 carts and Camas' Oak Tree Station which has over 20. This development reflects a growing trend in Clark County of creating organized food cart plazas with permanent infrastructure as community hubs. The food cart model has been shown to be a significant driver of local economic activity and entrepreneurship. These pods often serve as incubators for small businesses, offering a more accessible entry point into the food industry for women, minorities, and immigrants compared to traditional restaurants. While the full list of food vendors for Vancouver Station has not yet been announced, the plaza is currently in its soft-opening phase. A grand opening is anticipated for the spring, at which point more of the food carts will be operational.
