Fremont to Host Festival of Colors

The FOG Holi 2026 festival is coming to Fremont's Washington High School on March 7th. The public celebration of the Festival of Colors will run from 11 AM to 5 PM.

The Festival of Colors, or Holi, is an ancient Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. The celebration is rooted in the legend of Prahlad, whose devotion to Lord Vishnu protected him from the demoness Holika, symbolizing the victory of faith over malevolence. Organized by the Federation of Indo-Americans (FIA) of Northern California, the Fremont event is one of the largest in the Bay Area, with past celebrations drawing over 7,000 attendees to the Washington High School grounds. The FIA, established in 1983, is an umbrella organization for more than 40 member groups and also hosts the annual Festival of India and Parade. Beyond the throwing of colored powders, the festival signifies a time to forgive past conflicts, renew relationships, and foster unity across social and economic lines. Each color traditionally holds a meaning: red for love, yellow for health and happiness, blue for the divine, and green for rebirth. The Fremont celebration will feature nonstop Bollywood music from a live DJ, dance performances from local studios, and various food vendors. To ensure safety, organizers provide organic, eco-friendly colors and prohibit outside powders or food at the event.
