- Target said on May 13 it will remodel its Fremont store as part of more than 130 U.S. upgrades scheduled ahead of 2026 holiday shopping. - The clearest number is 130: Target said its 2026 capital plan covers that many remodels nationwide, with California projects finishing in September and October. - Fremont is among 10 California stores slated for upgrades, with remodels scheduled for completion by early fall.

Target said this month that its Fremont store is among 10 California locations set for remodeling work ahead of the holiday shopping season. The company said the Fremont project is part of a broader 2026 plan to remodel more than 130 stores nationwide and open more than 30 new locations. Patch reported on May 13 that the California remodels are scheduled to wrap up in September and October. Target has tied the work to a wider $5 billion capital investment plan for 2026. ### Which Fremont store is part of the upgrade plan? Fremont is listed by Target among the California stores included in this year’s remodeling push, according to Patch’s May 13 report on the company’s announcement. The statewide list also includes Brea, Carson, Culver City Westfield Mall, Norwalk, East Orange Show in San Bernardino, Poway, Redondo Beach, San Clemente and Seal Beach. Target did not detail in the materials reviewed which Fremont address would receive the work, but it said the remodel is part of its chainwide effort to refresh store layouts and services. Patch’s Fremont page separately highlighted the local store upgrade in its recent headlines. ### What changes did Target say shoppers should expect? Target said the remodels will introduce a more “food-forward” layout that shifts more selling space to fresh produce, dairy, meat and grab-and-go meals. Patch reported that the redesign is also meant to give more visibility to Target’s Good & Gather and Favorite Day brands. Updated interiors are also part of the plan. Patch said shoppers should expect new lighting, localized design elements and reorganized department layouts inside remodeled stores. ### How does pickup and fulfillment fit into the remodel? Drive-up lanes and order pickup areas are also being upgraded in the California stores, according to Patch’s report. The company said those changes are intended to reduce wait times for shoppers using pickup services. Target has increasingly described stores as both retail locations and fulfillment hubs. In an April fact sheet, the company said its stores fulfill 95% of digital orders and that same-day delivery through Target Circle 360 reaches 80% of the U.S. population. The company said those store investments are meant to support shopping in aisles as well as same-day services such as Drive Up and Order Pickup. ### How big is Target’s broader investment this year? Target said in April that its 2026 capital investment plan totals $5 billion. The company said that spending will support more than 130 remodels, more than 30 new stores, and additional payroll and training to improve guest service. A March 3 company release put the store work inside a larger growth plan under Chief Executive Officer Michael Fiddelke. Target said it would make an incremental $2 billion investment in 2026, including more than $1 billion in capital expenditures and another $1 billion in operating investments, with store floor plans, displays, payroll and training among the priorities. ### What has Target said about the purpose of the work? Michael Fiddelke said on March 3 that Target’s strategy includes plans to “refresh the store experience across the chain” and invest in payroll and training to elevate the guest experience. The company said the work includes updated floor plans and enhanced displays across stores. Adrienne Costanzo, Target’s chief stores officer, said in an April fact sheet that new stores and related investments give teams “the tools and environments” to create easier shopping experiences and use technology more effectively. That description came in connection with store openings, but the same fact sheet said the 2026 spending plan also funds the 130-plus remodels. September and October are the target completion windows for the California remodels, according to Patch. Target’s 2026 plan also calls for more than 30 new store openings this year as the company continues a broader expansion of its U.S. footprint.
