AMI Labs raises HUGE round

Yann LeCun's venture, AMI Labs, just snagged a massive $1.03B (~€890M) at a $3.5B valuation [https://x.com/i/status/2031291863341162717]. They're building AI world models using real-world data – what specific real-world data are they using?

AMI Labs is creating AI "world models" using real-world sensor data, moving beyond text-based large language models. They aim to build systems that understand the physical world, possess memory, and can reason and plan. Unlike LLMs, which predict the next word, AMI's models learn abstract representations, ignoring unpredictable details. The company will focus on powering businesses in robotics, manufacturing, and wearables. Applications in industrial process control, automation, and healthcare are also planned. AMI Labs has partnered with Nabla, a clinical AI company, for early healthcare applications. AMI Labs is headquartered in Paris and has offices in New York, Montreal, and Singapore. Alexandre LeBrun, former CEO of Nabla, is the CEO of AMI Labs, while Yann LeCun is the executive chair. Key hires include Mike Rabbat, Saining Xie, and Pascale Fung, all formerly of Meta or Google DeepMind. Investors in AMI Labs include Nvidia, Samsung, Temasek, Bezos Expeditions, Eric Schmidt, and Tim Berners-Lee. The $1.03 billion seed round is the largest ever for a European company. AMI is developing its own model called AMI Video.
