Indian Railways has added a weekly long-distance special from Tambaram, the Chennai-area terminal on the city’s southern side, to New Tinsukia in upper Assam, giving summer travelers one more through train across nearly the full width of India. Advance booking for Train No. 06015 and 06016 opened on April 9 at 14:10 Indian time. (paytm.com) This is the kind of route people usually piece together with multiple trains: Tamil Nadu to Assam, more than 3,100 kilometers apart, with the train crossing Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam on one booking. Paytm’s listing for 06015 shows 3,152 kilometers and a scheduled run of 66 hours 15 minutes from Tambaram to New Tinsukia. (paytm.com) Tambaram matters because it is not Chennai Central, the city’s main north-side long-distance station. Starting this service at Tambaram shifts some passenger load away from the busiest Chennai terminals and makes boarding easier for riders coming from the southern suburbs. (railyatri.in) New Tinsukia matters for the opposite reason: it is one of the rail gateways to India’s northeast, where many journeys fan out after Assam. A through train into upper Assam saves passengers from changing at larger junctions such as Guwahati in the middle of a summer rush. (paytm.com) The schedule is built like a rolling corridor up the east side of the country. The 06015 listing shows departure from Tambaram at 10:15 and arrival at New Tinsukia at 04:30 on the fourth day, which means three nights on board before the final morning arrival. (paytm.com) The coach mix shows who the railway expects to use it. Paytm lists 24 coaches with First Air Conditioned, Second Tier Air Conditioned, Third Tier Air Conditioned, sleeper, unreserved, brake-and-luggage vans, and a pantry car, which is the classic setup for migrant workers, families, and long-haul summer traffic traveling in different budgets on the same train. (paytm.com) This is also not a brand-new idea so much as a seasonal pressure valve. Indian Railways regularly adds “special” trains in peak periods, and the numbering in the 06015 and 06016 range signals a temporary or extra service rather than a permanent timetabled flagship. (financialexpress.com) There is already a regular Tambaram–New Tinsukia service in the system, Train 15929, with RailYatri listing it at 3,213 kilometers and about 60 hours 30 minutes. The new special is slower and slightly shorter on the available listing, which usually means a different path, extra operational padding, or a temporary slot fitted around the regular timetable.
