New Embedded Board for Industrial Linux
Ezurio has introduced the Carbon AM62, an embedded board built on the TI Sitara AM62x platform targeting industrial and aerospace applications. The board features a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53, a Cortex-M4F, and a Cortex-R5F to support mixed-criticality workloads, including real-time tasks and deterministic I/O.
- The board is a 45 x 30mm Open Standard Module (OSM) v1.2 system-on-module, a solder-down standard which allows for scalability and flexibility in design. It includes options for up to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 128GB of eMMC storage. - In addition to the main processing cores, the TI AM62x processor includes a dual-core Programmable Real-Time Unit (PRU) subsystem running at up to 333MHz for deterministic, low-latency I/O operations. This is designed to allow Linux application processing to run concurrently with deterministic control on dedicated cores without contention. - For graphics, the module incorporates an Imagination PowerVR GPU supporting OpenGL ES3.1 and Vulkan 1.2, capable of driving two independent displays. It supports one LVDS interface up to 3840 x 1080 at 60fps (dual link) and an 18-bit RGB interface up to 1920 x 1080 at 60fps. - Connectivity options include dual Gigabit Ethernet with support for TSN and IEEE 1588, two CAN-FD interfaces, and optional Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE 5.4 via Ezurio's Sona wireless modules. - The Cortex-R5F core is part of Arm's Real-time (R) profile, specifically optimized for hard real-time and safety-critical applications, making it suitable for aerospace and industrial control systems where low latency and reliability are paramount. - The underlying TI Sitara AM62 processors are designed for low-power edge AI applications, with suspend states as low as 7 mW and an active power of less than 1.5 W, reducing the need for thermal management solutions in size-constrained environments. - Ezurio provides support for multiple operating systems, including Yocto Linux, Buildroot, and Debian for the Cortex-A53 cores, and FreeRTOS for the Cortex-M4F and Cortex-R5F cores, with QNX support available on request. - Security features are built into the architecture, including a secure and encrypted boot process, a secure enclave for sensitive data, and secure file storage to ensure only trusted software is executed.
