Coachella turned Radiohead’s *Kid A Mnesia* from a 2021 screen-based artwork into a walk-in installation that festivalgoers could enter on the Indio grounds. (ocregister.com) The piece appeared inside a newly built underground bunker at the festival and opened on Friday, April 10, to Coachella ticket holders. Reports describing the structure said it spans 17,000 square feet with 38-foot ceilings beneath the Empire Polo Fields. (consequence.net) Radiohead’s touring site says the project is a “large-scale audiovisual installation and art gallery” built around a 75-minute film and surrounding gallery spaces. The soundtrack uses new mixes drawn from the original *Kid A* and *Amnesiac* multitracks in six-point surround sound. (kida-mnesia.com) That matters because *Kid A Mnesia Exhibition* first arrived in November 2021 as a free downloadable virtual work for personal computers, Macintosh computers, and PlayStation 5. Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood said then that they had originally planned a physical installation in London before logistics problems and the coronavirus pandemic stopped it. (blog.playstation.com) Yorke and Donwood said the visual material comes from art made during the sessions for Radiohead’s 2000 album *Kid A* and 2001 album *Amnesiac*. The new physical version keeps that archive at the center instead of adding a new Radiohead performance or a conventional museum retrospective. (blog.playstation.com) Coverage from Coachella weekend treated the bunker as part of the festival’s visual program, not just a band tie-in. The Press-Enterprise listed the “Radiohead Motion Picture House: Kid A Mnesia” among attractions on the grounds, and The Associated Press included it in a weekend photo gallery from the festival. (pressenterprise.com, apnews.com) Coachella is only the first stop. The official site lists runs at the Agger Fish Building in Brooklyn from May 6 to May 31, 2026; Cinespace Studios in Chicago from July 30 to August 23, 2026; La Maravilla Studios in Mexico City from October 27 to November 15, 2026; and the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco from January 14 to February 7, 2027. (kida-mnesia.com) Those later dates will be ticketed in two-hour slots, with listed prices starting at $72.43 before tax in Brooklyn and $72.51 before tax in Chicago; the site says Radiohead will not perform at the installation. At Coachella, though, the project worked as something rarer: a festival art space built from one of the band’s most influential album worlds. (kida-mnesia.com, ocregister.com)
