World of Horror Gets 20% Content Boost

World Of Horror just released its 1.2 "AS BELOW SO ABOVE" update that increases the game's content by 20%. The expansion adds new mysteries, events, and gameplay mechanics to the cult hit RPG. An official World Of Horror board game has also been announced, extending its unique horror storytelling to tabletop.

*World of Horror* is the work of Polish solo developer Paweł "panstasz" Koźmiński, a former dentist who created the game's distinctive 1-bit art entirely in MS Paint. The stark visual style is a deliberate tribute to the game's dual inspirations: the cosmic horror narratives of H.P. Lovecraft and the body horror manga of Junji Ito. The game's journey began with demos on itch.io before it entered a lengthy early access period from February 2020 to its full release in October 2023. Its setting is the fictional seaside town of Shiokawa, Japan, in the 1980s, where players must solve five randomly selected mysteries each playthrough to prevent an apocalypse. The "AS BELOW SO ABOVE" update introduces significant new content, including two new Old Gods, three more playable characters, and a new explorable "Mountains" location. Players will also encounter 60 new random events, 10 new allies, 19 new enemy types, and a "Weird Weather" system that adds a strategic layer to investigations. Interestingly, the project was originally conceived as a physical board game before Koźmiński pivoted to a video game format, finding the process of constantly printing and cutting new cards for playtesting too time-consuming. The newly announced tabletop version is being developed by UK publisher Lost in Cult. A limited deluxe edition features special mystery scenarios written by guest creators, including Hifumi Kono, the director of the classic survival horror game series *Clock Tower*.
