Durant Drops 40, Rockets Rally

Kevin Durant exploded for 40 points as the Houston Rockets stormed back to defeat the Orlando Magic 113-108. The Rockets closed on a 10-2 run with Durant scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter alone. This performance highlighted Durant's continued elite form deep into the season.

Durant's historic night went beyond just the 40 points; he also surpassed 32,000 career points, becoming just the sixth player in NBA history to reach that milestone. This performance marked his season-high in scoring, with 26 of his points coming in the second half to fuel the comeback. The Rockets found themselves in a 19-point hole in the third quarter before flipping the script entirely. A stunning 21-0 run in just over three and a half minutes erased the deficit and gave Houston a lead they would later fight to maintain. While Durant was the closer, rookie guard Reed Sheppard was the spark. Sheppard scored 20 points off the bench, including hitting five three-pointers in the second half. He personally scored 11 points during the decisive 21-0 surge that turned the tide of the game. This victory marked the Rockets' third consecutive win, improving their season record to 37-21. The comeback was one of their most dramatic of the season and was sealed down the stretch when Durant scored seven straight points and assisted on a crucial layup to take the lead for good with just over three minutes remaining. For the Magic, the loss wasted a strong performance from Desmond Bane, who led the team with 30 points. Paolo Banchero nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 19 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds in the losing effort. The Rockets' shooting was a tale of two halves. After starting the game making just one of their first 12 three-point attempts, they found their rhythm and connected on 10 of their final 17 shots from beyond the arc.
