Bay Area Prepares for Series of Storms

The San Francisco Bay Area is bracing for a series of storms this week, with the first system already bringing rain to the region. Forecasters are advising residents to prepare for wet conditions and potential travel disruptions throughout the week.

- The first of at least two storm systems this week is expected to bring 1.5 to 2 inches of rain to San Francisco, San Jose, and Concord, with up to 3 inches in Oakland and 4 inches in the Santa Cruz Mountains. - A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect through Tuesday, as the combination of high tides and storm surge is expected to cause minor flooding in low-lying shoreline areas. - A cold air mass accompanying the storms is lowering snow levels, with a winter weather advisory in effect for some higher elevations. Mount Hamilton and other peaks above 3,000 feet could see 4 to 10 inches of snow. - Wind gusts are expected to reach 35 to 45 mph, with some coastal and higher-elevation areas potentially seeing gusts up to 55 mph. - The National Weather Service has warned of the possibility of downed trees, isolated power outages, and slick, hazardous road conditions. - A slight chance of thunderstorms is also in the forecast, which could bring brief heavy downpours, small hail, and erratic winds. - A second storm system is forecast to arrive Tuesday, bringing an additional inch of rain to much of the Bay Area.
