The *Tarnished Edition*, bundling the base game and *Shadow of the Erdtree* expansion, was showcased at GDC 2026, demonstrating "major stability and visual improvements" compared to earlier builds. The game targets 30-40 FPS on the Switch 2, in both docked and handheld modes. FromSoftware delayed the Switch 2 release of *Elden Ring* from 2025 to 2026 to allow more time for performance adjustments. Initial impressions from Gamescom 2025 were critical, citing unstable frame rates. The GDC 2026 demo included early game content from Limgrave and the Margit boss fight. Testers also got to try out two new character archetypes exclusive to the *Tarnished Edition*: Heavy Knight and Light Knight.
