Bay Area Group Ski Trip to Jackson Hole Planned
A small-group powder ski trip to Jackson Hole, WY is being organized for Bay Area professionals and families from March 9-14. The trip aims to reduce costs through shared lodging and family-style meals for Northern California residents.
The organizing group, SnowPals, is the largest snow-sports community for Northern California, connecting Bay Area professionals and families since 1999. With over 8,000 members, its core mission is to facilitate ridesharing and group trips to reduce environmental impact and make skiing more accessible. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a legendary destination known for its challenging terrain and rugged beauty, located adjacent to Grand Teton National Park. It boasts the longest continuous vertical drop in the United States at 4,139 feet and covers 2,500 acres of skiable terrain. While the mountain has a reputation for experts, its terrain is varied. 50% of the runs are rated as advanced or expert, including the famous Corbet's Couloir, but 40% of the terrain is designated for intermediate skiers. Even so, many of Jackson Hole's intermediate "blue" runs are considered as challenging as "black" runs at other resorts. The mid-March timing of the trip offers the potential for milder spring skiing conditions. March is historically the third-best month for snow quality at the resort, with an average high temperature of about 41 degrees, making it a popular time for families. A key appeal of a group trip is mitigating the high cost of a Jackson Hole vacation. A standard full-day lift ticket averages $200, and nightly lodging rates in the resort area of Teton Village can start around $300. Traveling from the Bay Area to Jackson, Wyoming, is a significant undertaking. The drive covers more than 900 miles and typically takes about 16 hours. Flying is an alternative, though the journey can take over seven hours with connections.
