Los Angeles Valley College Hosts Pi/STEM/MEC Day
Los Angeles Valley College is hosting a Pi/STEM/MEC Day today in Monarch Hall from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The event celebrates mathematics, engineering, and science, offering students and faculty opportunities to engage with these fields.
Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) is hosting this event to promote STEM education, which is increasingly vital for innovation and economic growth. STEM skills enhance problem-solving, critical thinking, and digital literacy, preparing students for a tech-driven world. The event takes place in Monarch Hall, a 66,000-square-foot LEED Silver certified building that serves as a central hub for LAVC students. Monarch Hall houses a student lounge, cafeteria, bookstore, and health center, designed to create a welcoming on-campus environment. The building features a sloped roof that collects rainwater for bioretention ponds, linking to a sustainable park. LAVC was founded in 1949 to serve the growing San Fernando Valley and is located on a 105-acre campus in Valley Glen. The college is one of nine in the Los Angeles Community College District and enrolls approximately 20,000 students. LAVC's sports teams are called the Monarchs, and the school colors are green and yellow. The Pi/STEM/MEC Day event may highlight LAVC's MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program, which supports students transferring to four-year universities in STEM fields. MESA provides academic workshops, mentorship, scholarships, and tutoring to first-generation, low-income, and educationally disadvantaged students. The MESA center is located in the library, room 229.
