One Dead in Lake City House Fire

One person died in a house fire in Lake City on Sunday morning. Firefighters responded to the scene at 6:54 a.m. and were able to rescue one individual from the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

- The building was a two-story, multi-family home with balloon-frame construction. - When fire crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed with fire showing on all four sides and the roofline. - The front porch roof had already collapsed, and the second floor had partially collapsed when firefighters reached the scene. - Firefighters rescued a young female from a second-floor window; she was stabilized at the scene and transported for medical care. - Crews battled heavy smoke and fire conditions while searching the partially collapsed second floor, where they discovered the deceased individual. - Firefighters remained at the scene for about seven hours to manage the blaze. - Mutual aid was provided by the Wabasha and Zumbro Falls Fire Departments, Wabasha EMS, Lake City Police, Minnesota State Patrol, and the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office. - The State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause of the fire.
